IF IT AIN'T BROKE!
If your transmission shifts smoothly, if the transmission fluid is a clear red and maintains its correct level without having to refill it -- leave the transmission alone.
To keep your transmission healthy we recommend that you have your transmission fluid and filter changed every 20,000km and follow maintenance recommendations made by your car manufacturer.

IF YOU SEE SIGNS OF A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, GET YOUR CAR CHECKED IMMEDIATELY
The transmission fails to shift or delays shifting into the next gear, either higher or lower.
The transmission thumps or lags instead of shifting smoothly.
The transmission slips, i.e., the engine speeds up when you step on the gas but the car does not go any faster.
There are red, pink, or brown puddles under the car.
There is a need to add transmission fluid.
The car makes unusual noises -- a whining sound when you step on the gas, a grinding noise in any gear, or a banging noise when you come to a stop.
The car fails to move when it is cold but runs smoothly after warming up.
The engine overheats.
